PASCHAL APPEAL 2011

PASCHAL APPEAL 2011

Dear Reverend Fathers, Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

CHRIST IS RISEN!

"It is the day of Resurrection, and let us be enlightened by the Feast; let us embrace one another and say:"Brethren!" ( From the stichira of Pascha).

These wonderful words above, which are sang on Pascha with joy, remind us of how Our Saviour unites us all in the bright and radiant Feast of Feasts.  St. John Chrysostom emphasizes this point in his paschal homily:  "Wherefore, then, enter you all into the joy of your Lord; both the first and the second, receive you your reward. You rich and you poor, exult with one another." As we find oursekves in the midst of paschal joy, which St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco calls "a taste of paradisical joy", let us not forget our neighbors suffering from poverty and need.

We call upon you, dearly beloved, to help continue the works of mercy of our Memorial Fund in the name of St. John of Kronstadt by helping ease the burdens of the poor and needy during the Paschal season.  We ask you to not forget our fund, which is striving to aid all who are in need.  We express our appreciation and gratitude to everyone, who has supported our Memorial Fund over the years.  Your support is very dear to us all.

We congratulate all of you with the coming Feast of Feasts, Holy Pascha.  May Our Risen Lord fill all your days with Paschal joy and peace.

             Christ is Risen!

          With love in Christ,

Archpriest Michael Taratuchin, Vice-President of the Memorial Fund and Rector of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church in Utica, New York, USA.

CHRISRMAS APPEAL 2011/12.

CHRISTMAS APPEAL 2011/12

"Today the Virgin giveth birth to Him Who is transcendent in essence, and the earth offereth a cave to Him Who is unapproachable" (From the Kontakion for Nativity of Christ).

Dearly Beloved Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!

The kontakion for the Nativity of Christ, which is annually sang both joyfully and triumphantly at this great feast, reveals to us the mystery concerning our salvation.  The Magi and Shepherds did not find just any child at the cave in Bethlehem, although this outwardly appeared to be so. They found the Christ-Child, the Creator and Saviour of the world, the God-Man.  This mystery would become clearer to true-believers according to St. Paul's letter to the Collosians (Col. 1:26).

In his Incarnation as the God-Man, Our Lord and God Jesus Christ brought us the greatest gift of all: salvation and eternal life.  Dsepite our daily struggles in life, Our Lord never leaves us. The Divine Liturgy itself reminds us that we should always give thanks to Almighty God for all the bounties and gifts he bestows upon us in life.  A great part of our spiritual lives consist of action in the virtues.  There are countless examples of of this in the lives of the saints, especially in the life our St. John of Kronstadt, whom we attempt to immitate in the good works of mercy.  We call upon you, dear Fathers, Brothers and Sisters, to help us in this holy labor of giving help and comfort to the poor and needy.  Join the Memorial Fund of St. John of Kronstadt either as a member or donor.

We heartily congratulate both you and all your loved ones on this Nativity, wishing you a most joyous Christmas and a blessed and happy new year of 2012.

Christ is Born!

With love in Our Incarnated Saviour,

                           Archpriest Michael Taratuchin.

Vice-President of the Memorial Fund and Rector of St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church in Utica, New York, USA.

OUR THANKS TO ALL DONORS AND BENEFACTORS

OUR GRATITUDE is expressed to everyone, who has kindly donated to our Memorial Fund over the Christmas and Paschal seasons. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to continue helping the destitute and needy around the world as well as our monasteries and parishes in need.  Please do not forget us and please help with your donations when you can so that we may continue the work began in 1954 by Archpriest George Pawlusik in the bringing of consolation to the needy. May Our Saviour always bless you all.

Below are a few photos from past events from January to June 2012.

NATIVITY APPEAL 2012/13

Dearly Beloved Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

CHRIST IS BORN!  GLORIFY HIM!

“He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows” (Isaiah Ch. 53)

The Holy Prophet Isaiah prophesied on the limitless love and compassion of Our Lord Jesus Christ for us. Out of love Our Lord created us and became incarnated in the flesh as the God-Man to give us eternal life and joy in the Heavenly Kingdom.

Our Lord passed on this love and compassion to his disciples and apostle, and they, in turn, to the saints, who continue to inspire us with their examples of how to live a life in Christ.  St. John of Kronstadt wonderfully describes this in his spiritual diary, “My Life in Christ”.

Our Memorial Fund has existed for 58 years in order to bring consolation to the poor and needy, doing so in imitation of our heavenly intercessor, St. John of Kronstadt, who daily and hourly served God, and never refusing to help anyone whom he encountered, needing his aid.

As we prepare for Our Lord's Nativity, let us remember God's gift to us: our salvation and eternal life.  Let us remember the great service of this holy pastor of Kronstadt, who lived his entire life as a great example of holiness and great kindness to all in the world, which lay in a state of sin.  The Lord is constantly calling each and everyone of us to such works of mercy and compassion to rescue others in need or in a state of sadness.

Nowadays, many young people are delving so deeply into their various earthly and material cares that they neglect works of mercy and charity with a spirit of indifference toward organizations like our own Memorial Fund, which exists for the sake of Christ.  Spiritual life, which is strengthened by works of mercy, give us a solid foundation both in spiritual and social life. “Faith without works is dead”, (Epistle of St. James).  Indifference is a dangerous modern malady, which is destructive. There are many examples of this today.  When a person neglects charity, he or she brings danger on their soul, which suffers from a spiritual void. Our true happiness, which we are always seeking, may found in service to others.

Please remember our Memorial Fund. Works of mercy are holy deeds.  We especially call upon any potential new members to our fund to join us in this holy labor of love.  It is not only our Memorial Fund, which depends upon members and donors, past, present and future, but especially those for whom the fund exists, the poor and needy around the world, whom the fund is helping for decades.

We thank all of our donors and benefactors over the years. We wish you all a blessed and joyous Christmas and spiritual fortitude, blessings and joy in the coming new year of 2013!

Christ is Born!

With much love in our Incarnated Saviour,

Archpriest Michael Taratuchin, Vice-President of the Memporial Fund and Rector of St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church in Utica, New York, USA.

Please join us for our patronal feast day celebrations from the evening of the 31st October though the 3rd November 2013. On Friday 1st November and Sunday 3rd November 2013, His Grace, Bishop Peter of Cleveland, President of our St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund, will be the chief celebrant at both liturgies. Also, the Kursk-Root Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos will be visiting our parish in Utica, New York, at those times. Everyone is welcome!

NATIVITY APPEAL 2014/15

Dearly Beloved Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!

“Christ is born; glorify Him! Christ comes from heaven; go to meet Him! Christ is on earth; be exalted! Sing to the Lord, all the earth! And praise Him in gladness, O people, for He has been glorified!”

(Ode 1 of matins for Nativity)

Having entered the season of the Nativity Fast, the ode above is also the katavasia chanted at matins during the fast, and fills us with joy and awe together with the Angels, Magi and Shepherds, who glorified Our Saviour at the time of His birth and incarnation. How exactly do we fulfill the instructive words of the canon’s ode, “Glorify Him!”? Naturally in praise to Our Saviour for all His countless miracles and gifts to us, but hand in hand with this, we glorify God by our lives and our efforts in good works, remembering the words of the Holy Apostle James, “Faith without works is dead”, (James 2:20). Having triumphantly celebrated this past November 2014, the 50th Anniversary of the Glorification of our Holy Righteous St. John of Kronstadt and the 60th Anniversay of our Memorial Fund, we have much to be thankful for. Not only has Our Lord blessed us with material abundance in our lives, but has given us great heavenly intercessors and real life examples as may be found in our St. John of Kronstadt. We can repay this abundance given to us by rendering charity and kindness to those in need. Only with your continued help are we able to accomplish these goals of compassion. Not only do we ask you, dearly beloved, to send in your donations, but to also let others know of the existence of our Memorial Fund of St. John of Kronstadt, especially the younger generations of Orthodox faithful, who God-willing may continue these good works in years to come. As you prepare for the Great Feast of Our Saviour’s Nativity, please remember the poor and needy.

May Our Incarnated Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ bless you all and your loved ones as you celebrate Christmas, and may the New Year of 2015 bring you all many blessings.

CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!

With much love in Our Incarnated Lord,

Archpriest Michael Taratuchin, Vice-President of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund and Rector of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church in Utica, New York, USA.

Paschal Appeal 2015

Hypakoe: When at dawn, the women with Mary came and found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher, they heard from the angel: Why seek among the dead (as if He were a mortal man) Him Who lives in everlasting light? Behold the grave-clothes. Run and tell the world that the Lord is risen, and has slain death. For He is the Son of God Who saves mankind.

(From Paschal Matins)

Dearly Beloved Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

CHRIST IS RISEN!

When we walk around the church in procession on Pascha before midnight, we represent the Holy Myrrh-Bearers, who were the first to find the empty tomb of Christ and receive the joyful news from an angel in shining white garments that He is risen from the dead. Great joy came upon these Myrrh-Bearers as they received this angelic announcement, and it is this very same joy which we all annually experience on Pascha. Who were these Myrrh-Bearers? They were women who were dedicated in service to Our Lord, and who served him with all that they had, withholding nothing. With great risk to their lives, they ventured out on that very first Pascha, early in the morning to anoint Jesus’ body to find the tomb empty. Their roles were one of selfless service to Christ, and the same can be said of our Holy Righteous Father John of Kronstadt, whose life was one of endless service to Our Saviour and to all people whom he encountered and whoever approached him for help, spiritual and material. What can we say about ourselves in this regard? Most of us receive many blessings from God in the abundance of the good things we all enjoy in life. We have our church, our families and friends, and have been blessed to be materially content, even though we may at times face material struggles which occasionally arise, but for the most part, God sees to our daily needs as is conducive to our salvation. But what about others who have much less than we do? Let us remember that all that we have are gifts of God to use for a better purpose, and a great part of that is to help others in need. That is the reason why our St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund has existed over 60 years, and why it is important to keep our efforts going: to reach out to those in need worldwide throughout our Orthodox communities. It is only with your help that this can continue to be accomplished. Please do not be indifferent to the plight of those in need. Every donation you send is put to good use in helping the poor and needy. Please join us in helping the less fortunate than ourselves. What better way to give gratitude to Almighty God for all that He does for us every second of our lives? Please respond with your hearts, and join us in this service to Our Lord and to our brothers and sisters in need.

May Our Risen Saviour bless you and all your loved ones during Great Lent and Pascha.

With much love in Our Risen Lord,

                                   Archpriest Michael Taratuchin,

Vice-President of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund and Rector of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church in Utica, New York, USA.
