NATIVITY APPEAL
of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund, 2023/2024

“Man was made in the image of God, but he sinned, and lost immortality. He fell from the divine and better life, enslaved completely by corruption. Now the wise Creator fashions him again, for He has been glorified!” From the first ode of the Nativity Canon.

Dearly Beloved Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!
As we prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, our attention is often drawn to current events both in the countries where we live and around the world, and very often, we witness very unpleasant occurrences and the evil acts of others inspired by the devil. Our brothers and sisters of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church under His Beatitude, Metropolitan Onoufry, are suffering not only from an ongoing war, but are under severe persecution by their national government. In the Holy Land, our clergy, monastics and faithful live under danger due to the wars and strife, and meanwhile much of the world has turned to Godlessness and immorality with many people losing their moral compass. This is what the first verse in the Nativity Canon probably refers to when it mentions mankind or humanity being “enslaved completely by corruption”. On the whole, the Nativity of Christ reminds us of the purpose of Our Saviour’s incarnation, which is to save humanity from evil, and to help us all attain the Likeness of God. As St. Athanasius the Great said, “God became man so that man could become God”, which refers to the deification of humanity, which is to become like God and inherit eternal; life. No matter what happens around us in the world, we must always strive to keep our Orthodox faith and live it with the help of God’s Grace and the intercessions of the Most Holy Mother of God and all the saints. Our St. John of Kronstadt is not only a very powerful intercessor for us, but also a great example of faith to emulate. Therefore, we appeal to you all to help us continue the vital work of our Memorial Benevolent Fund by your active generous support, especially during this Christmas season. Please help us to continue helping those of our brethren in need. Please consider becoming a member of our Fund. May Our Saviour bless you for your generosity, past and present!
May the joy of Our Lord’s Nativity abide with both you and your loved ones this Christmas, and may the coming New Year of 2024 be filled with many blessings!
Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
With much love in Our Incarnated Saviour,

Archpriest Michael Taratuchin, Vice-President of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Fund and
Rector of the St. John of Kronstadt Memorial church in Utica, New York, USA.
